Other people have answered the question already but yeah H&M stands for Hennes and Mauritz (the designer is called Erling Persson I think)..it's a Swedish company. Although you were partly right :)  the 'H' (Hennes) means 'hers' as he used to only sell women's clothing, then he started selling men stuff and included the  'M' (Mauritz) but I'm not sure why actually..I think it's something to do with getting shop that was called Mauritz os summt!?

I know this 'cause I used to live there and everybody in Sweden loves and shops there..including moi :D ! Haha
