Ok, this version is from the novelization of the scene at the beginning of Temple of Doom. Any wandering translators want to give it a shot?

Lao smiled at Indy. "Nee chin lie how ma?"

Chen and Kao Kan laughed malignantly.

Indy smiled in return. "Wah jung how, nee na? Wah hwey hung jung chee jah loonee kao soo wah shu shu." He turned the joke around on Lao Che.

  1. Several specialist websites say it's Shangai dialect. Only a partial translation is given :

"Lao smiled at Indy. "How are you lately?"

Chen and Kao Kan laughed malignantly.

Indy smiled in return. "I'm fine, and you? I will talk with the *jung chee jah loonee (probably something insulting to his son)* kao *soo wah*." He turned the joke around on Lao Che."

  2. I know that "ni na" means "and you?" Like "Ni hao ma" (how are you), "Hen hao, ni na?" (Very good, and you?). But the rest is beyond me.

Edit: If it benefits anyone else, the pinyin of that sentence would be "Wa jeng hao, ni na? Wa h*i heng jeng chi ja luni kao su wa shu shu."

  3. Lao smiled at Indy. "How are you lately?"

Chen and Kao Kan laughed malignantly.

Indy smiled in return. "I'm fine. And you? (The following part is guesswork. I think I got it correct but it does not seems make sense in this situation.) I'll be very angry if you tell my uncle."

He turned the joke around on Lao Che.
