Question:

What does Islam say about animal rights?

I know we are allowed to kill animals to eat (apart from pig) but what about for other uses, for e.g for their skin, tusks or medical research.

Like animal testing. In Islam is that considered wrong? What about if it's in order to help humans like for medical research. Or even in the case of xenotransplantations ?

Whats your views?

Thanks.

  1. I believe that they kill everything just because they like blood.

Except for goats. Those they have s*x with.

  2. Animals and other living things were created by Allah, the Lord of the Universe.  They have their own independent existences and modes of living.  (55:10) Allah has said in the Holy Qur'an that every animal has its own communal life and its own way to do 'Ibadah, or service, to Allah.  Every animal praises Allah, the Exalted, in its own way.  (6:38)

we are not allowed to harm animals or plants for no reason.  The Blessed Prophet forbade people from capturing baby birds, burning ant hills and whipping animals cruelly.  All the people he stopped from doing these things were doing them "for fun."  Well, as the Prophet pointed out, it wasn't fun for the animals.

If someone kills a sparrow for sport, the sparrow will cry out on the Day of Judgment, "O Lord! That person killed me in vain! He did not kill me for any useful purpose."

    (Nisai).

The Prophet said, "Whoever kills a sparrow or anything bigger than that without a just cause, Allah will hold him accountable on the Day of Judgment."  The listeners asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what is a just cause?" He replied, "That he will kill it to eat, not simply to chop off its head and then throw it away."

    (Nisai, Hakim).

  3. The killing of an animal is only allowed for two reasons: food or in self-defense. Even when slaughtering an animal for food, special precautions are to be taken to make sure the animal is in least pain possible. It's even haram to overload horses and camels!

Islam was one of the first to advocate women and animal rights!

  4. it seems all rights are alloted to man only, in quran

they make such hoo haa...when women don't wear burka, or drive car...but men freely date & exploit women

  5. Every living and un-living creature gotta be respected 'cause of their creator.

  6. There is great emphasis on showing kindness to animals and several Hadith that attest to being rewarded for treating them kindly.

  7. f thats your pic u r a doll

  8. Allah (swt) made everything serviceable to humans in order we can live on this Earth.

  9. Here's a good authentic islamic answer :)

Islam teaches us to respect all living things. It enjoins kindness to animals. Animals, just like people, are entitled to receive charity. Once a man asked the Prophet (peace be upon him): Is there a reward for the charity that we give to animals? He answered: "For every being possessing a moist liver, there is a reward." [Sahîh al-Bukhârî and Sahîh Muslim]

The Prophet (peace be upon him) told us of a prostitute who earned Allah’s forgiveness for showing mercy to a dog. She had found it panting and swallowing up dirt out of severe thirst, so she went down to a well and filled her sock with water and gave it to the dog to drink. Allah was grateful to this woman and rewarded her with Paradise. [Sahîh al-Bukhârî]

Likewise, the Prophet (peace be upon him) informs us of how a woman earned Allah’s wrath for her mistreatment of a cat. She entered the Hellfire on account of a cat that she imprisoned, neither feeding it nor letting it hunt for food. [Sahîh al-Bukhârî]

When we slaughter an animal for food, we must do so in the best, most humane manner possible. The Prophet (peace be upon him)) said, “When you kill, you should kill well, and when you slaughter, you should slaughter well. Sharpen your knife and give relief to your slaughtered animal. [Sunan Abî Dâwûd]

The Prophet (peace be upon him) even forbade the cursing of animals: Once, while the Prophet (peace be upon him) was on a journey, he heard a woman invoke Allah’s curse upon a camel that she was riding. He said: “Offload the camel and let it go, since it has been cursed.” [Sahîh Muslim]

    Book 010, Number 3813:

Abu Zubair heard Jabir b.'Abdullah (Allah be pleased with him) saying: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) ordered us to kill dogs, and we carried out this order so much so that we also kill the dog coming with a woman from the desert. Then Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) forbade their killing. He (the Holy Prophet further) said: It is your duty the jet-black (dog) having two spots (on the eyes), for it is a devil.

    Book 010, Number 3820:

Salim b. Abdullah reported on the authority of his father that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Whosover amongst the owners of the house keeps a dog other than one meant for watching the herd or for hunting loses two qirat of his deeds every day.

During prophet time, dogs used to come and urinate in the mosque all the time. Prophet was so sick and tired that he ordered all dogs of Madina killed.

    Narrated Abu Huraira:

Hamza bin 'Abdullah narrated: My father said. "During the lifetime of Allah's Apostle, the dogs used to urinate, and pass through the mosques (come and go)."

    FOOD

The size of the food depends on the size of the salamander eating it. On land, all types of live prey can be offered: worms, crickets, meal worms, slugs, moths, and other small invertebrates. Additionally, a vitamin/mineral additive (e.g. Gistocal, Carmix, Reptovit or Korvimin) can be dusted onto the prey animals. This is especially important for growing animals. They also require additional calcium for building bones. The food is best offered in a low dish or bowl placed in a depression in the substrate.

In the water one can also offer live prey, such as tubifex, worms and red mosquito larvae. Many animals adapt well to taking dead prey, like frozen mosquito larvae, Mysis, pieces of cow's heart, liver, chicken, and whatever else comes to mind. Ensure that everything gets eaten as remaining food will decompose. Juvenile salamanders eat basically the same food as adults do, the food items just need to be smaller. In the water they eat tubifex, Daphnia, small worms and red mosquito larvae. On land, buffalo worms, fruit flies and their maggots, red mosquito larvae and small crickets can be offered.
