  1. "it's our godforsaken right to be loved."

He's singing to a person that refuses or finds it difficult to love or receive love ("well open up your mind and see like me. Open up your plans and d**n you're free. Look into your heart and you'll find love love love love...") and therefore prevents him from giving himself fully, so he keeps letting her know, "I'm yours." This person he's singing to probably doesn't value or appreciate the right to be loved so he thinks she sees it as a godforsaken right.

    "Our name is our virtue."

He implies that vanity is unnecessary. We're constantly trying to impress others by looking good and that physical appearance is overrated.

("i've been spendin' way too long checkin' my tongue in the mirror

and bendin' over backwards just to try to see it clearer

my breath fogged up the glass

and so i drew a new face and laughed

    i guess what i'm a sayin'is there ain't no better reason

to rid yourself of vanity and just go with the seasons

it's what we aim to do

    our name is our virtue")

I think he means that our virtues are bestowed upon us when we are born and named. This is our time of pure innocence. This was a time when we knew no vanity and passed no judgment. And when we act by virtue, we are able to love and be loved.

The whole song is about him trying to get a girl to realize that she is worthy of love. He loves her but she won't allow him to share these feelings for her. So he just decides to let her know without hesitation that he gives himself to her. She probably has a lot of inhibitions or lack confidence in her appearance and he tries to tell her that vanity is not important...it's who we are that's important.

This is just my interpretation of the lines and song. There are many meanings to it, I'm sure. Either way, the song is positive and I love it. :-)
