  1. An up-level (high performance) LTZ trim was introduced in 1997 to soften the blow from the discontinued Impala SS and Caprice. It's standard features included the 3100 SFI V6,sporty alloy wheels (similar in style to the Impala SS's),a rear spoiler, restyled front and rear body clips (resembling the Monte Carlo Z34,called the "appearance package"), a tachometer, and a floor-mounted shifter.Additional options included an electric sunroof, leather bucket seats, power driver seat,AM/FM stereo with CD player and the "Sport Performance Package",which included 16" Brushed aluminum wheels, blackwall radial sport tires, sport tuned suspension and a 3.4 L V6 rated at 210 hp and 200 lbs-ft torque,The 3.4 L V6 was replaced by the 3800 Series II in 1998 which made 205 hp and 230 lbs-ft torque. The 3800 Series II has been noted as an all around better motor than the 3.4 liter because of its ability to get power to the ground faster because of its 25 lbs-ft more torque and general reliability. The (3.8 liter) LTZ has impressive performance because of such refinements, with 0-60 mph (0-100 kmh) times of 7.5 seconds,1/4 mile (400 km) times of 15.0,but high 14 second runs have been achieved,it is also limited at 120 mph because of the rev limiter at 5500 rpm.Because it's very light weight for a mid size sedan (3300 lbs) it is possible for them to go much faster with little modification. Also in 1998, the Lumina received second generation airbags. The front-wheel drive Chevrolet Impala was introduced as a replacement for the Lumina in 2000, although GM did produce 2001 model year Luminas to be exclusively sold for rental fleets. US production ended on April 26, 2001. In some Asian countries, the Lumina continued as a rebadged Buick Century/Regal. In Latin America, the Lumina is sold under the Omega nameplate

  2. It was the 'sporty' model. The good thing is, it was the only model built with the old bulletproof 3800 V-6!
