  1. It does indeed pertain to a ship. It means to take the conn or man the conning tower - in both cases it means to be part of the navigation team, to watch where the boat is going, keep an eye peeled for hazards, to keep the boat on course, etc.


  2. Recognizing that the other answers are in fuller detail, 'Man the Conn' means 'Steer the boat'.

  3. The "conn" used to be shorthand for "conning tower", which is inside the top of the sail (that's the bit that sticks up from the main hull) on a submarine.  This was because, since it is the highest point of the vessel, it gives the best view of the sea.

    It could also refer to the CONtrols these days.  And to "man" something is to go to it and take control.
