What does Mars lack water , while Earth has water aplenty, even though the two planets are similar in many respects?

  1. Mars has ice, supposedly, but for some reason they never seem to send a rover to recover any.  

    I say it's just frozen Co2  Dry ice  or frozen methane.


  2. They are not similar in enough respects. Lower gravity on Mars, there goes oceans of water escaping to space. Mars is further from the sun, what water is left gets frozen out. Mars has a very feeble magnetic field, more of the water gets split up by the sun's radiation, there goes the hydrogen escaping to space. Etc. Mars is simply not Earth.

  6. Contrary to what you said in your question, there is actually water on Mars. However, Mars is farther from the Sun than is Earth, and temperatures drop to below freezing. This causes the water to exist in Mars as polar ice caps.
