  1. dBZ is a unit that measures how reflective a group of clouds is to radar from weather satellites.  Generally, the higher the dBZ, the more severe the weather (in terms of rain, sleet, hail, etc).  So in a patch of clouds, the max dBZ would tell you where the most severe weather is.
