Question:

What does Mercury Insurance use to evaulate total loss claims?

I was involved in an accident earlier this month in my 03 Chevy S-10 base pickup. The shop deemed it a total loss (which I expected from what little I know about car insurance claims). I'm researching prices to have some negotiating leverage when I will (eventually) be talking to the total claims adjuster.

  1. You will have to ask them what source they are using as their base line valuation.  It will also depend on the miles and condition of your truck at the time of loss along with options.  Insurance companies have specific guidelines they need to follow by each state insurance deptartment, so it is hard to answer not knowing what state you are in.  I would suggest looking up the nada value and maybe going onto a website that sells private listings and see if any advertised match what you have.
