  1. Norm has 2 usages as applied to people.

1.) The behavior of average or typical person.

2.) Behaving in accordance or a predetermined set of rules.

The first simply describes typical behavior frequently giving variations from the typical. The second prescribes behavior usually with penalties for any variation.

  2. Norm just means normal. the general rules by which society operates.

So normal is a family and children not normal would be an unfunctional family or person

    drunk parents

    nudists

weird people that talking to themselves.

    out of the ordinary.

I guess that is  sociology, a norm, or social norm, is a rule that is socially enforced. Social sanctioning is what distinguishes norms from other cultural products or social constructions such as meaning and values. Norms and normlessness are thought to affect a wide variety of human behavior.

  3. How everyone and there mom goes about doing something. It is usually influenced by the media and the people around us. One Norm we have here in in the U.S. is to drive on the right side of the road and to go at a green light and stop at a yellow light.

  4. norms are specific cultural expectations for how to act in any given situation. so its what society expects you to do in certain settings. society would be chaos without them.  norms tell people how to act and the social interactions with them in place are specific, consistent, predictable and learnable.  some norms do not need to be spelled out for people because you learn them growing up others must be rigoursly taught.  for example think about going to visit someone you knock on their door, you don't just barge in; not only is that disrespectful but it is also illegal.  when norms are broken expect a harsh reaction from the people around you.

    hope that helps...
