What does PTA do in elementry school?

My daughter is starting kindergarten. What is involved with being a part of PTA - I learned from Open House its 5.00..But what does it entale. I want to be a part and help any way I can. I do work full time so is this something I can still help with? THANXS

When my mom was involved in PTA she did fund raising stuff for the school if they needed it (book conferences, bake sales, etc.).  She would be responsible for bringing certain supplies to class for a school project (candy, construction paper, pencils, anything the teacher needed for the particular project).  She'd also volunteer to be an adult supervisor on field trips and school outings.  I think there were also PTA meetings she attended once a week or so where they would review the goals for that month and have parents sign up for projects and activities, offer suggestions for improvement, etc.

You can just ask the teacher.  She will be able to answer a lot of those questions.  You can also ask the school administration office for details.
