What does Photometry mean?

Its an option on my camera and I was just wondering what it changed/meant. I can change it to average and spot.

    i guess it changes the way the lighting looks to the human eye?


  2. It sounds like it is talking about your exposure meter. Its a built in light meter in the camera. Average meter as the name says averages the light on the sensor and seen in the viewfinder trying to keep a balance between dark and light without letting highlights or shadows get blown out. Spot metering lets you use the center spot, or on better cameras a spot or spots you select for exposure metering and it sets the camera to properly expose that part. Another commonly used metering format is center weighted amnd in fact the average on your camera may be center weighted
