I often see REGS on Bloomberg etc... what does it mean?

  1. Reg S bonds (or stocks) are offered to non-US residents and qualified institutional buyers under an exception to US securities laws. This exemption was set forth as "Regulation S". Non-residents and qualified institutional buyers do not get the same legal protection in conjunction with new issues as US retail clients do. This regulation allows US banks and issuers to compete in the international capital markets for funds without being constrained by the sometimes restrictive US security laws.

    After a seasoning period Reg S securities may be traded by US residents, too.
