  1. SAP is the world’s leading provider of business software – from distinct solutions addressing the needs of small and midsized businesses to enterprise scale suite applications for global organizations.

SAP solutions have been categorised in to modules. For example SD module for sales and distribution, FI/CO for finance and controlling and HR for human resource management.

If what you are looking for is to be employed by a company that uses SAP and be an end user of SAP, it is not all that necessary that you a qualification in SAP. Your other qualifications and expertise in business functions would get you the job. Most employers train people to use their systems soon after being recruited.

  2. SAP is a name of a large software corporation (HQ in Germany) but operates worldwide.  They are a leader in database management systems for offices - the enterprise level, and one of their biggest applications is for production management - such as ERP (enterprise resource planning) - which can tie together data for materials resources, production planning, inventory, work in progress, order tracking, etc.   A lot of companies use this so you will hear these magic letters.

Alternatively, you will also hear Oracle, CA (Computer Associates), PeopleSoft, and Siebel which also supply the same type of enterprise software as SAP.  Note that the last two companies (PeopleSoft and Siebel) have been acquired by Oracle.

  3. It is a computer program used by many large companies.  There are many different modules sold by SAP.
