What does Tar and Feather have to do with the Boston Tea Party?

  1. It has nothing to do directly with the BTP but was used around that period to punish petty criminals. I don't know of any one name of a person who received this punishment but the perp was dunked in hot tar and then rolled in chicken feathers as punishment. It wasn't usually fatal but the tar would burn the skin and it was h**l to get off.


  2. Jobs were pretty hard to come by in those times so some of the people took jobs as tax collectors. Everyone would be upset at the tax collectors that they were taking those jobs, they thought of them as traitors, so to make the tax collectors pay they would tar and feather the tax collectors and parade them around town to embaress them and their family. Then the tax got so high that some of the bostonians poured the tea into the harbor.

    I am pretty sure that is right not positive though
