I bought a Chihuahua and the lady I bought him from gave me two Applications one for AKC and one for CKC. I want to get AKC because a lot of people told me not to get CKC. The information of the parents from the puppy are already on the Application.

Should I get the Basic AKC Registration or the Three Generation AKC Certified Pedigree & what does this mean!

  1. A pedigree is basically the family "tree" for a dog. It doesn't tell you anything about the quality of your dog, just that it is a purebreed.  You really don't need this unless your plan on showing and possibly breeding. (Studying bloodlines prior to breeding)  If you want to frame it and hang it on the wall, go for it.  If you will be neutering your pet, don't waste your money.  If CKC means Canadian, it's good.  If it means  Continental, it's c**p.

  2. Just as it sounds your dogs parents and their parents were all registered

  3. All it means is that, if you pay a little more, they will send you the dog's 3-generation pedigree (showing the names/numbers of his parents and grandparents).

If this interests you, go for it. If not, get the basic registration.
