Ive noticed that my baby has a coating of white on his tongue and cheeks, also on the inside of his lips...I tried to gently wipe it off and sometimes it seems to come off but other times it is very hard and I cant get it off. I was just wondering what thrush looks like, is it a complete white coating or is it patchy. I dont know if its just milk and maybe Im not wiping hard enough because I dont want to hurt him. Thanks for any answers!

  1. Yes it is Thrush! My son had it for two months..Take him to his doctor they will give him some Nystatin and sometimes it takes a while to go away. Some days you will think it is gone and stop giving him the medicine and the next day its back.. So take him to the doctor and make sure to give him the medicine 2-3 times a day everyday.. It will eventually go away. You can also use Gentian Violet but it stains there mouths purple and everything else..It worked with two of my kids but my third...Its nothing to freak out about though. Your baby will be just fine.. Good Luck

  2. thrush is a yeast infection in the mouth, it is usually patchy, and does not rub off very easy. I do'nt know how old your baby is, but you will not hurt him by rubbing the inside of his mouth with a finger brush (the little infant tooth brush), or you can use a baby wash cloth, If the baby is breastfed there is a good chance of thrush,, breast fed babies get thrush more often than formula fed babis. I would just take him to the pediatrician if it does not go away. If you breastfeed, you will likely need to be treated for it to. Good luck from a mom of five

  3. if it were milk it would wipe away as easily as spit, if it doesn't wipe off when you gently wipe it is thrush and you need to go to the pediatrician. if you don't get it treated it can spread to the baby's intestines and eventually cause a full body rash. if you are breastfeeding you also need to get an antibiotic for yourself otherwise you and your baby will continue to give it to eachother.

  4. Google it and look at the images, it has a bunch...it even has one on a baby.

  5. it sounds like trush to me. My oldest son had it when he was a baby and that is what it looked like

  6. Your baby has thrush and needs an antibiotic.  Please take him to the doctor immediately.  Some doctors advise leaving thrush alone, while others say you can use sterile gauze and gently remove it as you have tried.  Consult your physician and follow his/her advice.

  7. Thrush can be in spots or it can cover the whole mouth.  I dealt with thrush when my son was a month old.  She said a quick way to tell if it is thrush..... opposed to just milk residue..... would be if it doesn't wipe away.  Are you breastfeeding.  If so...... you can also tell if you have thrush because your nipples will become very sore... tender.... and bright pink.  I would go and get it checked out.  Probably is thrush.  Thrush is VERY common in breastfeeding mothers.

  8. it looks like cottage cheese and it is thrush so call his doctor and tell him that your baby has thrush and he will give him nystalin or something for it

  9. Thrush looks the way that you described. My Godson had it.  I would give the Pediatrician a call to be safe.
