The answer is the same director as Sony confirms that Brian Taylor has been hired to bring the long running video game series to the big screen in a movie.
Sony may be known for its consumer electronics products yet the company has been diversifying over the past couple of decades and apart from the Sony Music Group, it also has Sony Pictures as a subsidiary company.
The studio is known for being behind the Spider-Man trilogy that broke records at the box office when it was released.
Sony Pictures have now apparently hired Brian Taylor, who is currently co-directing Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, to not only write the script for a movie based on the Twisted Metal video game but also to direct the project as well.
There has been no word on whether or not the game’s creator, David Jaffe, will be involved in the project or not. Jaffe is an icon in the gaming world, having fathered projects such as Twisted Metal and the God of War series.
Jaffe will have time on his hands in the future as well, should Sony wish to approach him, as the gaming guru is set to leave the development studio, Eat Sleep Play, after the ‘maintenance contract’ with Sony Computer Entertainment expires.
As for the plot, the Twisted Metal game is set to follow the basic premise of the video game series, with Calypso set to run a series of races which involve vehicular combat.
Two characters were also confirmed, namely the iconic ice cream truck driving clown, Sweet Tooth, and the Doll Face who drives one of the larger vehicles in the games.
The news came via Deadline Avi who quoted that two of the film’s characters would be, “a homicidal clown who drives and ice cream truck.” And, “a young woman who is trapped behind a porcelain mask and who drives an 18-wheeler.”
Reviews of the latest game in the Twisted Metal series have been positive with many praising the way the game holds on to what made the original games fun, while adapting to the current generation as well.
