  16. UV is Ultra Violet (or Ultraviolet). UV rays come from the sun and are part of the colour spectrum but are not visible to the human eye.

The colours we can see are Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet. UV rays come below (ultra = below) violet and below what we can see.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, there is Infra Red (used in photography and night-vision equipment etc) which is also not visible to the human eye.

  19. UV = Ultra Violet and is the white light coming directly at us from the Sun.  It is the UV light which causes skin burn and in some extreme cases, sun-stroke.

A UV level is usually given during the months May - September in UK to warn people to cover up and not stay out in the sun for too long.

By the way - no matter how hard a person tries, it is impossible to get a sun-tan in UK in the months October to April - so, if you don't want to go red, but like the Sun, take advantage of the months when the Sun is too far away to burn us up.

  20. Ultra Violet level
