What does it mean when a car has a V6 or a V8 engine?

  1. It means that the vehicle has 6 or 8 cylinders and will have more power. In south Africa and with the petrol price in mind, it means you will pay a lot more for your transportation Lise.


  2. it means that the vehicle has 6 or 8 cylinders....a cylinder is the "hole" where the piston slides up and down. the more cylinders the vehicle has the more power and the smoother the engine will run.

  3. Well you learn something new everyday, at least hopefully you do, I have little to no interest in cars generally but at least now I can say that I know what V6 and V8 stand for.

    Too true Blue Bull, I'm seriously considering getting rid of my car for a minuscule Ford Ka or something along those lines, filling ones car up at the petrol station has become cause for depression of late.

    The reason for the V configuration is because it gives extra power from the same amount of cylinders.
