  1. If you have a fear of small or confining spaces this is not the job for. I spent 5 years doing this job and teaching it to other mechanics and believe me there are some small spaces you will need to get into. You will learn to use volatile gas measuring devices, how to ventilate and purge a tank so that you have a breathable atmosphere.  There is a lot that goes into fuel tank entry and repair other than just open the tank and climb in.  Most wing tanks you will enter from the bottom through an access panel that measures 10in. by 14in.

Good luck and have fun but be very careful.

  2. you will be entering aircraft fuel tanks and repairing leaks and doing preventitive maintenance such as removing old sealants and replacing it throughout the aircrafts fuel tanks and cells

  3. This individual does all the maintance required on the fuel cells. This includes the repair maintenance, the removal and replacement if them, the inspection of them, the troubleshooting of the many problem normally associated with them, and the storage and the management of all the people under his control which also includes their training and qualifications to do the work.

  4. If you've ever seen Dirty Jobs on Discovery, they have an episode in the 2006 season where he does tank sealant on a KC-135.  Good chance to see for your self.  You can download episode on iTunes.  Here's an article about the episode...
