What does a General Laborer do for a construction company and how much do they make?

Ive just applied for another job, this time as a general laborer for a construction company. What all do they do? and how much do they make per hour for an entry level exp?

  1. A general laborer is one that helps pick up material, cleans up job site, relocates materials.

    It's also a really good way for you to learn about construction work.  A majority of carpenters/remodelers have started out as a general laborer and worked their way up.

    I usually start my guys out around $8.50 - $9.00 an hour, then as they learn more and increase their workload, I give raises and new job titles.  It depends on what area of the country you are located in.  I am in NC, and we also do fire/water damage restoration work, so it's really busy and chaotic a lot of the time.
