What does a Multimedia Card do?

Does is record footage onto the card like it would a tape in a camcorder? ....I'm hoping it is

Some dual media vcams can also be switched to record video to removable flash media, although for others, these are only for pics. This can be checked thru the tech.specs.

But there are dedicated flash media vcams like Sony HDR-CX7and Panasonic HDC-SD5.  

Memory cards are relatively more rugged & durable and very small but with high capacity (16gb+). The vcam size then becomes smaller and lighter... you can now concentrate more on the subject as it is not very tiring to handle on live shoots.

For digicams, video and pics are all recorded to flash media.
