  1. A barometer is an instrument used to measure atmospheric pressure. It can measure the pressure exerted by the atmosphere by using water, air, or mercury. Pressure tendency can forecast short term changes in the weather. Numerous measurements of air pressure are used within surface weather analysis to help find surface troughs, high pressure systems, and frontal boundaries.

To make a barometer, you need a clean, empty, dry, small soup can. Hold a small balloon over the can and tape it down really good. Glue a toothpick in the middle and then  get a ruler and see how high the toothpick is. That's how much air pressure is in the room. Cenimeters work best with measuring the air pressure.
