I'm thinking on becoming a teacher, but don't know on what area. I have a Bachelor's in Political Science and Public Administration (Mexico) and a Master's in Public Administration (US). Given my educational background, do you think the bilingual generalist area is right for me? What would I teach?

  1. Teaching is a calling. If you feel unsure about it, I would suggest try starting out as a substitute teacher. You'll get a feel about whether or not you enjoy it, and you won't have to commit to a year contract. Nothing is worse than a teacher who doesn't enjoy their work.

On paper, you have the skills for the job. You just need to find out if you have the heart for it.

  2. You're background is fine, but you're heart really needs to be in it. Teaching is a profession, that is not met with many rewards. If you do choose to become a bilingual teacher, than the work itself is the reward. It's hard to answer if teaching kids is right for you, only on the basis that you are qualified. Only you can answer that question.
