  1. JBravo23  , thanks alot !!!!!!!This really works

  2. Problem solved, it is working now. I have just gone to update & the problem has been resolved.

I didn't do anything bar wait patiently for AVG to sort their prob out. So don't worry about uninstall/reinstalling & wasting download space etc. ;-P

  3. i am having the same problem could it be a bug and they are going to fix it

  4. I tried to repair AVG and then I uninstalled and completely re-installed and it did NOT fix the issue.  When I hit yahoo answers there is a reply about downloading all but the last update file.  That corrected the problem.  Thank you!!!

  5. I have the same problem I am just going to wait

  6. Try reinstall avg

  7. Hi Folks,

Been on the net and knock on wood never had an issue with it. Ironically work for an it company, but today of all days went to check some of my emails. When I went to update my avg free, when presto I got the same error as you all have.

Instead of doing a search in yahoo answers, went thru and panicked, and uninstalled avg and re-installed it again. Still getting the same A .bin file is missing error. Just went thru and read all your other answers and will try to sort this mess out, with Patrick's and Jbravo's advise.

The question that comes to mind, if i work on the net as it is with this issue, and do nothing about it will it:

    (a) leave me in a vulnerable position?

    (b) wait for avg.com to get their respective issues together and get some kind of fix arranged  from them? Btw have emailed them wanting to know what is being done and when it will be fixed?

    (c) try and fix it with your suggestions?

    Mike

  8. dont do anything drastic llike system restore or wateva

AVG is aware of this problem n is fixing it - read the the msg at this forum:

just b patient n wait for them to fix it

  9. im having the same exact problem

  10. Found this problem and used Patrick S's solution. Well done! Thanks Patrick. All fixed. Phew! All the best. =;O)

  11. Hey,

Don't worry about anything, I just have the same problem. All AVG users are. It's just kind of like a bug, or the update is missing some files. The best recommended thing I suggest you should do is nothing. You might mess up AVG, and waste your time. They will probably update this soon. Your Antivirus and Spyware protection and all those stuff will still be working properly, so you shouldn't worry. The bad thing is you will have the ! on your grayish AVG icon. If you do not trust me you can search 'bin file missing' on Yahoo! Answers. You can see a list of questions exactly like yours posted somewhere 6 hrs, 7 hrs, 5 hrs ago, or somewhere today. It is just a false update made by grisoft. Just be patient and it'll be updated, and everything will be working properly again.

    Good Luck!

    Kevin

    Don't worry!

  12. "Currently the update for AVG Free v8 is corrupted... you will have to wait for AVG Technologies to address the issue with the update."

Listed in AVG's forum. Just wait until they correct the problem, you aren't the only user experiencing this issue.

If you'd like to update your software before they address it, here are the steps to correct it:

1 - Start up AVG, click Update Now.

2 - The list of updates is shown in Pop up, click on the more information link. A list of updates will be shown.

3 - Click on and save all updates in a file except the last one - http:// downloadfree.avg.com/update/ u7iavi1616oo.bin

Because this is causing the problem.

4 - Cancel the update and instead click on Tools -> Update From Directory and go to the file where you saved the updates. Install these and AVG should be working properly again.

    Hope this helps.

    http://www.askmehelpdesk.com/spyware-vir...

It got my AVG working again. )

    ______________________________________...

Step one: fire up AVG and click on Update Now.

Step two: when the list of updates is shown in the popup window, click on the link to tell you more. This will take you to a list of the updates you're trying to, well, update.

Step three: click on and save to your computer the all updates except the last one - http://downloadfree.avg.com/update/u7iav... - because it isn't there.

    Step four: cancel the update.

Step five: instead click on Tools->Update from Directory and browse to wherever you downloaded the file.

    It should work from there.

  25. Found this solution on the yahoo answers forum from member intc_escapee and it worked for me:

    1) go to www.grisoft.com/ww.download-update

    2) make a directory on your desktop called AVG

    3) download AVI: 270.6.4,(right click on both the files and then click "save target as").

    4) download IAVI: / 1616

    5) move the dowloaded files to the directory you made called AVG

    6) launch AVG

    7) select tools -> update from directory

    8) select the directory called AVG where you put the downloads

    That's it. Should be fixed.

  26. I think I have the trojan virus and I downloaded avg to help fight it, but i cant update anything:( any advice?

  27. Well, guess what! You and me are one of the first to notice this.

There's a problem with grisoft.com server. It is missing the bin file (not you).

I tried to manually download all of the bin files and one is actually missing here,,,

    http://free.avg.com/ww.download-update-a...

You'll see that the newest file is August 16, 2008 and all you get is "HTTP 404 Page not found".

Repairing, or reinstalling will not work.

You just have to wait until enough people complain to have it fixed.

  28. The best answer is of JBravo23

I followed his steps and my AVG works again.

    Thank you J

  29. Thanks! This solution worked for me.

    Quoted from above!

  30. Used Patrick's procedure and it worked great!

  31. I think you will find AVG Free 8.0 is working OK again - I've just managed to download the update without any problems, so it looks like it has been fixed.

As well as mentioning the problem, the AVG forum is now also saying that it has been solved -

UPDATE .BIN error information... Aug 16th 2008

Currently the update for AVG Free v8 is corrupted... you will have to wait for AVG Technologies to address the issue with the update.

Reporting the issue again by other users here will not do any good util it is resolved.

The updates that your AVG currently have will still provide the protection it is setup to detect. In otherwords, not being able to get this update will not make your AVG Free ineffective and as soon as AVG Tech resolves the issue you will be able to update to the current virus definitions at that time.

So in short... please do not post to report the issue, its already known. Also please be patient until AVG Technologies can address the issue.

Also... for those user that did report the issue... thanks for the info.
