  1. Just a BIG fan base, also a Gold medal wouldn't hurt either.

  2. they both are good looking and have good personalities. It was the women fans that made them famous. I used to watch De la Hoya but when he started bragging I lost interest in boxing. So thats what you need  WOMEN

  3. beat up your girlfriend and tell people u wana eat there children

  4. It is hard these days because Boxing is a dieing sport, due to its brutality, it would have been easier back in the day.

  5. It's the Big Fights  and both of these guys did it. (If you need proof check out there Records on Boxrec.com) and if you think of other big names in the sport like Mayweather he didnt become mainstream untill his Megafights with DLH and Hatton. Obvisouly other things can help like the following of a country but that only make you popular not Mainstream. So to be Mainstream you have to be in the big fight and to get the big fights you have to fight the best.

  6. I've never understood the fascination with Del Annoya.   I guess women think he's cute. Leonard had good timing as a country was desperate for a new Ali, and Ray took the ball and ran with it.  When the controversy arose regarding his b*****d son on welfare, he didn't hide from the story, he taped his boy's picture to his ankle so the TV cameras could zoom in on it.

Basically, a fighter has to feed the media machine, which can make or break a fighter.  Good old Larry Holmes let his fists do the talking and he didn't get a title fight until he was 28, as the newspapers kept rehashing an invented story about Larry at the olympic trials.

One of the most exciting fighters there has been in a long, long time is/was Kostya Tszyu, had he been able to work the US media, he'd be considered an all-time great.  But he was some SIberian/Korean/Australian that hit hard and didn't get any big fights.  He'd have walloped De La Hoya, but was never worth Oscar's time.

  7. There is two type of boxing, pro and amutuer.

to make it to pro you have to have atleast win a couple of silver gloves or golden gloves. You also have to be seen by endorcers so they  can support your campaign

To be a big celebrity you gotta win some fight in pro.
