What does a car amplifier do?

I'm getting speakers and a subwoofer for my car and I was wondering what an amp does?

It amplifies the sound. A factory deck will output 22 watts rms on average. Aftermarket speakers can handle over 22 watts rms. The amplifier will push more power to the speakers which makes them louder.

Good Question. An amp routes power and increases velocity to speakers and sub woofers. an amp also keeps your car from suffering from low power or even power failure. the bigger the subs the more of power demand. My suggestion: always purchase an amp no matter what you get, it'll save you in the long run and you'll get more bang for your your buck!
