What does a conceptualizer do exactly in an advertising agency?

What does a conceptualizer do exactly in an advertising agency?

It used to be known as a "concepter" or "conceptor" which was a "concept" ad agencies I believe "concieved".   If you want a job as a "conceptualizer", you should go to one of the top  ad portfolio schools and brown-nose your teachers.

Then buy a black wardrobe, a pair of glasses in a funky color, learn about deconstructionism if you haven't yet, and hang out in the bar drinking martini's (or whatever is au currant)  after work.  However after 2-5 years, you will be too old and too experienced to be an effective conceptualizer unless you become a creative director.  Even then, after 5 years, you may be too experienced to get this kind of job.

Thus, learning to brown-nose  is a significant skill for any conceptualizer wanting to move up to Executive Conceptualizer.
