  1. You will have to be more specific in your description of 'apprentice' - which is a glorified way of saying 'trainee' so can be for any number of positions onboard.

    Im assuming of course you mean an apprentice on costa cruise ships? otherwise they could well be learning about the coffee buisness ;)

    Im my company the only people called 'apprentices' are the trainee Deck, Engine and ETO (Electro-Technical) Officers, otherwise called cadets (or sometimes 'gadgets' as they look nice, are expensive, but dont really do anything useful.... ;) )

    Depending on their nationality they train for 3 to 4 years, split between being in a nautical or engineering college and being at sea before (in the case of UK cadets) passing a rather hard oral exam given by the coastguard that entitles them to sail as an officer
