What is the purpose of any umbrella, golf or regular ? One can use it to protect himself from very hot sun or from rain or drizzle as one would a normal umbrella. The difference is the golf umbrella is usually larger than the regular and each usually has a fancy logo for a golf product or a country club name.

It's much bigger than a regular umbrella.  You can fit 3 or 4 people under one of those things.  It keeps you, your caddy and your bag dry.  Nike has one shaped in a square after its Nike Sasquatch Sumo Squared driver.  68 inches in diameter.

golf umbrellas are typically much larger than a normal umbrella in order to protect player, bag, and possibly caddie.  the one great thing that most "golf umbrellas" have adopted is vents on the umbrealla to prevent the umbrella from breaking or turning inside out in high winds.  The original company that produced these umbrellas was called "gust buster" but pretty much every manufacturer has adopted it.
