What does a guitar slide that looks like this 3 \ mean?

so i am learning the guitar and i know what a slide on a tab looks like. but i dont know what fret to slide to when the tab looks like 3 \ or / 3

  1. This will generally mean you slide up to or down to that note or slide from 3 to the next.  ex;

    / 3   means I quickly slight up from the nut (or 1st fret) to the 3

      or slide down from high (maybe 12) quickly to the 3.  You can listen to the song to figure it out.  There is no good rule from where to start your slide except that 3 / 5 means to slide from 3 to 5.  You can also slide from the note quickly up and off the neck if it says 3 /.  You just gotta listen to the song.  Tab can be a good guide but take it as a guide and don't try to follow it as if it were exact.  It can be a lot of fun to improv here.  Lots of old beatles songs started with harrison sliding down quickly to the first note.  listen to day tripper - hendrix too.


  2. 3/= slide up from the third fret

    /3= slide down to third fret
