"Halfback" is a term used to identify with the "FullBack".

Like a "Runningback" is often refered to as a "Tailback".

Think of it like this, a QB is a Quarter of the way behind the Center.

The Fullback is Half way between the Qb and Runningback.

The Runningback is all the way at the Tail end of the formation.

ok wait this is candian football so americans don't know the whole five db's. In cfl you have corners a saftey and halfbacks. A halfback is the db that is normally covering slots. In a cover three scheme which is most common he is the person who gets the flats to the edge of the field where the corner gets a deep third and the safety gets the middle.
