A friend asked me if I would be a sponsor for her wedding, a madrina. What exactly is a madrina? Like what do they do, how much do they pay, etc. Any help would be appreciated :)

  1. It's a hispanic thing. Here in Houston, I've been one. Basically, some lucky hispanic brides get sponsors to pay for different wedding things. Someone pays for the cake, for the alcohol, etc. They usually get close relatives to pay for the huge things, then just kind of ask around for the smaller things. I haven't heard of flat out giving cash, but I'm sure everyone's different. Basically, they tell you something they need, whether it be contributing to flowers, or buying the serving set, or whatever. Your name goes in the program as a madrina. At the reception I was at, the parents walked in first, then all the padrinos (male and female sponsors) then the bridal party, then the bride and groom. So we were announced as well. It's kind of cool, and I'm jealous of girls who get to do it!
