  1. Never lose his golf ball.  If he hits his ball in the water, go swimming.

  2. Provide exact yardages. A course yardage book will help you with that.

Know the pin placements for the day.

Skip the jokes and don't be overly chatty, the member will start the conversation if they want. They're there to golf with their buddies, not you.

  3. 1. Know the course intimately. Ask a pro to take you through a round with him before you start to learn the course.

    2. Be witty, have some funny jokes to tell...

    3. Watch the distances of the player so you can guess the right club to hand.

    4. Learn the greens.

    5. Be knowledgeable about the equipment and the rules of the game.

  4. I guess this will all depend on the member's needs on that particular day as well as their tendencies.

Going along with the other post.. KNOW your course.  Be able to be blindfolded and put anywhere on the course and you should know EXACTLY where you are (Hole number, distance to center of green, regular flag locations, hazards in play, etc.)

Know your members.  What do they need (pat on the back, kick in the rear, flattery, honestly, etc.)  This will be different based on each member and their mood for the day.

KNOW how to keep a secret.

Be polite, anticipate needs, do your job better than it is expected.  Don't expect a tip, view it as what it is... a recognition of good work done.

  5. Know the game and be professional, know your course and what the members want from their caddies. Many don't want to be entertained they want information about the course.
