  1. I have been to see a neurologist 2x in the past month.  Both times he had to asses whether or not I had any residual effects of a suspected mini-stroke or TIA that would prevent me from being allowed to drive.  The consultation involved conversation only and some reflex testing.  He looked at Doppler scans of my carotid arteries and heart, looked at a CT Scan and a MRI scan and came to the conclusion that it was OK for me to drive a vehicle.  He also prescribed a stroke preventer.  Said that he often sees people that have pinched nerves.  I got the impression that he is interested in repairing, maintaining or optimizing the interface between muscles, nerves and brain cells.  After obtaining your medical degree, you would need to specialize in neurology.

  2. The first 2 contributors are right but Neurologists also treat Neurological problems like Neuropothy, Tremors, and Neuralgias like facial neuralgia, atypical facial neuralgia and trigeminal neuralgia.  I see a Neurologist for Essential tremors and Eagle's Syndrome that has no treatment so far. Also He's given me injections for the pain of Eagle's Syndrome but they have not helped. I would think some do surgery since people having pain with a trigeminal nerve will have the nerve cut to prevent pain and they also will inject medication into a nerve by going through the face to get to the nerve. Sorry, I don't know any good colleges for neurology.

  3. A neurologist gets an M.D. degree, an internship, then a residency in a teaching medical center for 2-3 yrs.

They  diagnose, treat and, assess neurological diseases like Parkinsonism, Multiple Sclerosis, Myasthenia Gravis, Lou Gehrigs Disease(ALS) , cerebral palsy, etc.
