What does a poet ask Santa for?

"Wishlist"

I want to sing

until my voice expires.

I want to dance

until my feet bleed.

I want to see nature

so purely

that I go blind.

I want to run through the stars

until my lungs

explode.

I want to love

until the world is changed,

and let the purity

of a new world

break my heart.

Strange to see a wishlist that shows every positive action has a negative reaction.  If one truly has a wish - why should one want negative things to happen?  Why not see nature so purely - that your vision is enhanced (instead of blind)? Let the purity of a new world - fill your heart instead of breaking it ♥

I am with you...voiceless, bleeding, and blind. The last stanza really touches my heart. This poem is as beautiful as the poet.

Lovely poem!

The energy in your poem really caught my attention, and your choice of words: expires, bleed, blind, explode, and break to offset the words sing, dance, see, run, and love. Very nice opposing forces, like Yin Yang.

Do you remember that poem about how we are are never as close to God (or was it Heaven?) as when we are a child? Your poem's focus on purity and openness reminds me of how innocence is so beautiful but is harmed by the realities of life.  

One of my favorite songs, "End of the Innocence" by Don Henley, has the following lyrics, similar to the spirit of your poem:

But I know a place where we can go

Thats still untouched by man

Well sit and watch the clouds roll by

And the tall grass wave in the wind
