  1. A psychiatrist is basically a therapist that can prescribe medication should you need it. Now, each one is different.  I have heard from friends how awkward some are but I had a great experience when I was younger with one.  Some take the lead and ask questions while others just let you talk. By the end of the first session  you should be able to decide if you life the person or not.  Psychiatrists will see you as long as you want.  If you feel like one session is all you want they will do it but they usually like to see patients more often than that.  If you are prescribed a medication, you will need to keep seeing the psychiatrist so they can monitor your progress.  Depending on how severe your problems are, your sessions may range anywhere from once every other week to three times a week.  It really depends.  I can say that it helps a lot when you are having trouble working through things on your own to have someone that will just listen to you and not judge you.

    Good luck!

  2. talk to you , try to get to know you, and may prescribe you some medicine if they think you should use it.

  3. He will talk to you, ask you a couple of questions. And he will also prescribe you medications if needed.

  4. psychiatrist appointments are usually quick ones.. he isn't going to ask you about your childhood, and go into depth about your fears and aspirations... but he will talk to you a bit about what's going on, and perhaps write you a prescription...

why not try asking him when you get there about these issues you want addressed.. maybe he can help direct you to the correct person, if he isnt it...

  5. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who study, work to prevent, diagnose and treat mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.
