  1. it helps you with experience.

if u get in a fight with a round fat boy who just ate a lot of sand....

u will kno what to do

  2. A punching bag does exactly what its called it helps you get better form by goin full speed and strengthens your muscles for punching it also helps your cardio if you go for a good amount of time a constant pace

    Can also relieve stress

  3. Look at a boxer's build. Deltoids (very good way to build the rear delts), traps, neck, abs/core.

It can be incoperated into interval training (ex: one of 3 sets) to mimic what a boxer does in competition. It gets your heart rate up quick - as quick as running. Therefore it is a good cardio workout.

Ex: 9 jabs with left, hook with right, alternate low to high - two each, 9 jabs right, hook left.... etc... You can do countless variations. At least you will be able to defend yourself and may raise your self-esteem a bit - what is sitting on a bicycle going to do for you...

I assure you it is not as boring as you think.

You will be gassed by the second round.

Get MMA gloves (with good wrist support). That way your hands wont get hot and you can leave them on while you do a circuit. You can buy a timer on ebay for 20 bucks+++ or you can use something off the net/ or use a custon audio tape.

I look forward to this workout and you will too once you get the bugs out. I do it once per week - 10 rounds (2 minutes on 1 off - use a combination of box drills/lunges/power cleans/etc. in between the punching.

I also do pilates/yoga, and lift weights (olympic style/dumbells) on other days. Yoga is the toughest thing I have done believe it or not - that takes discipline and is quite boring.

  4. If it's a "heavy bag" it takes the place of a human body. It allows you to practice hitting to particular heights/areas of the body.

If it's a "speed bag" it primarily works on eye hand coordination and punching stamina.

Both bags will work arms, shoulder and back.

    Hope this helps.

  5. It depends really

Are you the PUNCHING bag or is it a real bag?? =]]

They work on your upper body, arms, chest, lungs, and even your legs and feet if you move around right.

I set them up so it is more of MULTIPLE OPPONENTS and have some one swing them at me in a circle and I can now dodge, evade, block, strike and counter strike.  It is more fun then just hitting the bag!!

  6. It brings up your punching technique.

  7. Bernards answer is hilarious.

If you do your stuff properly, you can lose weight and tone up your muscles. It works chest, shoulders, back, etc. But it depends on what style your doing. If you do kick boxing you're working practically your overall body. If it's boxing then your just working more upper body.

  8. Primarily it allows your body to adjust to hitting something that resembles a human body.  muscles that are affected are chest muscles, back muscles and core muscles.  granted if you practice proper form.

  9. It's a good outlet if you're angry. I am a person just filled with rage so I think of the punching bag as someone I hate.

It works pretty much all the upper body muscles (arms, back, chest)
