What does a "43" after a centrifuge test to donate blood mean?

I donated blood today and they said my result after the centrifuge was a 43, which is supposedly "high for a female." I'm just wondering what that number means, and what the normal ranges are, by s*x.

  1. That is your hematocrit level.  They check all donors crit before they will let you donate because if it is low, your donation will not be any good.  It is a little high for a female but not much, you could have been dehydrated.  Normal ranges depend on the location.
