Not a home theater one but the kind of subwoofer you hear in the movie theaters. Pictures? What does this mystery subwoofer look like? How big is it because when I went to go see Cloverfield the chair I was sitting in exploded...not really but thats the point.

  1. Have a look at this one:

  2. It's not how big but likely how many.  I believe most theatres use 16-inch subs usually located behind the screen.  Here's a nice $16-million home theatre setup that uses 18-inch Snell subs.....http://blog.audiovideointeriors.com/208g...

  3. A true THX theater will use multiple subs dispersed throughout the room on every wall. I'm not sure about the clunky cineplex boxes they call theaters.

The actual drivers (speakers) aren't different than home subs but they are repackaged and don't necessarily have their own power amps built in.

Nice link Beliott! I guess that's what the girls mean when they say "boys and their toys." (I bet he secretly wishes he had a 2.35:1 screen and an anamorphic lens for that bad-boy projector)

  4. Really effin' big.
