What does a red light mean on a quantaray universal camera battery charger?

I have a universal camera charger for my olympic camera because i lost the original charger.This charger is a quantaray and it is the kind that has the base, then 3 different slide ins that hold different size batteries. What does a red light mean when you have the battery in? The light will only turn red when i put pressure on it when it is plugged in with a battery on it, is this because it isnt supposed to be red or because the unit it loose.

usually red light means charging..

as u have to put pressure on it for the light to come on might means that the battary and the charger is not perfect fit, some lose connection.....
