I know what a receptor is, however I'm getting a little confused in relation to what they connect to and why they do.

If anyone could help it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

  1. i think its the sensory neurone next

i'm not sure so wait till someone else replies

  2. If it is a reflex action the sensory neurone would connect to the spinal cord>effector neurone>effector muscle.

  3. sensory receptors, such as the receptors which detect pressure, pain, heat etc..  are present on specialized neurons known as sensory fibers.   These fibers are located mostly periferally,  or near the outter surface of our bodies, such as skin, muscle, ears etc.....   upon stimulation of these receptors,  they trigger the cells on which they occupy to send a signal to the brain  and interpret the sensation.  This signal is then relayed back to the area of stimulation to form a response,  such as move away from the source of irritation or percieve it as a friendly touch from a friend.    If you are interested further,  you may want to look up the sensory circuitry or motor neurons    for diagrams and more detailed information into this process.
