Question:

What does a stomach tumour look like?

Could someone please help me? @_@

I need to know what could be seen as an indication that a patient may have gastric cancer. Could this be seen on an X-Ray after a barium meal? Can you even see the tumour? I've read in so many different places that it's the norm for GPs to advise swallowing a barium meal etc to check for stomach cancer but some people say it doesn't give much indication...

A diagram or an x-ray would be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

  1. A barium meal does offer some insight but the best definitive diagnostic technique is Gastroscopy with biopsy.

Clearly that means the physician takes a look at the mass which  typically would look like an irregular shaped ulcer with variable margins and a mass that is penetrating the mucosal membrane.Alternatively it could be a polypoidal fungating mass.

In any case early detection for those at significant risk is best because it is asymptomatic initially.
