  1. That it's not plugged to something alive


  2. If the leads are on correctly, and you've checked everything up to and including the patient's pulse by palpation... This represents asystole.

    This is NOT a shockable rhythm.

  3. It may indicate asystole or death, or it may just be that the wire's come loose. It's always best to treat the patient, not the monitor. I've had people panic when a flat-line showed up on a patient who was sitting up and talking.

  4. either the patient just died, or the leads aren't connected right.

    The line indicates there is no detectible electrical signal being produced by the heart.

  5. It means that the machine isnt catching a pulse, so if its on somebody, either the machine is effing up or that person is dead as a doornail
