  1. Your sub takes care of your lower frequencies.  If you look on the back of a subwoofer, the range usually goes from 500Hz and lower.

If you only want it louder, the higher and cleaner the power source, the better.  If you want to get to a lower range, you also need to look at the size of the woofer.  Bigger the woofer, wider the range should be.

  2. sub woofers give out the very low tones--- get a bigger one

  3. a subwoofer is a specially designed speaker designed specifically to handle the lower frequencies (usually from 100ish hertz all the way down to 30ish hertz, and depending on the woofer, lower) in music or movies.   to make your woofer louder you have two options, the first of which i don't recommend you do.  your two options are 1) port your box to make use of the sound waves emitted by the rear of the diaphram, and 2) buy a higher watt amp.

  4. As you read already the Subwoofer is a bass driver and plays notes that are usually between 20Hz and 150Hz (the lowest 3 octaves we humans can hear) depending on the sub and your particular setup.

As to how to make your sub louder, this depends on a few things.

1 - Powered subs have an internal amp so cannot be amplified by adding an out-board amp. If you are turning the gain (volume control) on the sub all the way up and don't get enough bass you can try going into the receivers setup and turn up the signal to the sub. This procedure varies depending on the manufacturer but should either be a simple LFE or Sub out adjust or be controlled while in test mode. The test mode will allow you to adjust the volume of all the surround speakers 1 at a time usually getting to the sub last. This will boost the signal to the sub and increase you maximum volume you can attain on the sub.

2 - If you are getting to the limits of the sub and want more bass (ie. when you turn the sub up further it sounds distorted)

then you need to replace your sub with a more powerfull one or add anothe sub.

3 - accoustics play havoc with bass so you can use that to your advantage. Place the subwoofer at your primary listening possition and play some music with great low bass. Then walk around the room while paying attention to how the bass sounds. Once you find the spot where the bass sounds the best, move the subwoofer to that location. This alone could affect the bass you hear tremendously if you are currently getting cancellation with your current placement.

    Have fun.
