I am asking this because I take the teacher certification test K-6 tomorrow and this was on a previous test. Who do you go to about this?

  1. by law you have to notify the proper athorities. Anybody in the place of trust among children usually has to sign some kind of form stating that even if you suspect any kind of abuse or neglect you will contact the appropriate people.

  2. you have to notify the contact person in your school...usually the guidance counselor...

  3. You're required to report it immediately. Don't way until you can substantiate your suspicions. You report it and then document everything you see that you believe substantiates it, because if something worse happens to that child, God forbid the child is killed, and they find out that you knew or even suspected, but didn't report, that's your career.

    Good luck on your test.

  4. You'll find that by law, you are required to report it. After a case is started, the family will be investigated. It's an awful situation to have to be in as a teacher, but you could save a child's life and isn't that what teaching is all about.

  5. You are required by law to report it.  Didn't you get that in the cert class?  In the news?
