What do tennis coaches look for in a player? Our team has new coaches, and I don't know what they want on their Varsity team. Any advice? What would make them want me on Varsity?

  1. The talent. I had the love and drive for tennis but I still had to prove myself to my coaches. The first 3 weeks for us were challenge matches to test what the lineup was.

But what I realized years later that I was as good as the #1 person on our team, but I wasn't too consistant. So she sat in the #1 seat while I sat in #4 and won almost all of my matches. Coaches are smart and will put those who are ready for the top spot in the #1 seat.

  2. Dedication, Ambition and Massive serena and venus legs. You'll need those if you want to win

  3. If you're talking about playing at your high school, I think coaches are looking for people with good attitudes, stick-to-it-iveness, and a little bit of playing ability.  It depends on your school, as some are more competitive than others.

In more competitve schools, a coach is going to be looking for the best players.

  4. coaches look for skill but they also look for effort & that you will try your hardest to work at tennis.

  5. DEDICATION

a true love for the sport

  6. team work

  7. I really never played tennis but i have seen people play it....so i am thinking they are probably going to look for some one with good eye coordination because in tennis don't you always have to keep your eye ont he ball......and probably they are looking for a person that is fast cause you have to be fast enough to hit the ball....

  8. He looks for skill, and the person has to be athletic.

i hope this helps you nd i hope you get on the team

  11. If the coaches are experienced and fair, you've got to show them that you have talent and good technique.  Competitiveness, a good attitude, and coachability also help.

I'm sure that you'll have some kind of internal tournament to see how you compete against the other people on your team. But if it gets close, (between you and another player), I think that competitiveness and desire will get you on the team.

How bad do you want to be on varsity?  They'll see it in your eyes.

  12. looks, ok not really, but seriously...ok here's the thing, like you, i got a new coach after my freshman season... now ive always been on varsity, but the thing that bugs her is when kids s***w around, "heart comes before talent", she said to me... at practices, i find myself trying harder in the running drills than the on the court drills... just look around you, see what everyone else is doing, and without a reason or saying a word, try to do the same thing twice as good... you'll make varsity... oh, and uh, go hit with that hot guy in the off season, it will do wonders to your game

  13. Well, being good for one. Enthusiasm. Really good effort, being a good/fair player and not getting upset after a lose or a bad hit.

  14. 1. Keep a rally - dont just hit winners but can get 10 or so balls back and let the other person miss (singles especially)

    2. Good first serve and second - powerful first serve but reliable second, not too many double faults

    3. Good attitude

    4. Dedication
