What does a thermistor do that keeps my a/c from coming on now.

I have a 2006 kia sorento and the a/c has quit blowing cold air. the compressor is not coming on. I took it to the dealer and they say it is the THERMISTOR. could that be the problem?? What does the thermistor do that would keep the a/c from working?

  1.   The thermistor regulates the current through a circuit and shuts it down if it accedes a certain value the protect the components.
