What does a third grader need for school?

I am getting ready to get my best friend's daughter her birthday gift this weekend. She said she needs stuff for school. I told her I would get her a backpack and a gift card for some clothes. But I want to get her things for in the back pack.....school supplies, etc. Problem is I have a 2 year old. I have NO idea what 3rd grader's need for school. Pencils, folders? What else?

Any tips or ideas you can give would be REALLY appreciated.

If you know want school she going to. I know my Walmart have a school list out with grade your child going to. Then you could see want they need on there. Yes she would need pencils extra erasers.

Well the school will have a list like others stated. My kids are going into 2nd and 4th and here are some of their favorite things to have for school.

Crayola makes smelly markers, they also make double ended markers, erasable colored pencils, their are containers with about 6 or so tiny erasers, seem to be popular with girls, or the crayons that twist up. And Sharpies, my daughter that was in 3rd grade begged for the mini sharpies, or highlighters as well.

These are a few ideas, my kids do not get all of these things but these have been the "cool" things to have over the past couple years.

Her school probably has a list that her teacher wants her to get. That's how it is around here anyways. They would have them at the school, and maybe at Wal-Mart.

pencil case complete with all kinds of pens, pencils, etc.

Schools usually send a list home of what the kids need for a certain grade and it really can differ from school to school.  You can always add funky pencils and colored markers...all kids use those.

notebooks

composition book

markers

crayons

scissors

You could do a pencil/crayon box, markers, paper, folders, crayons, erasers.

AND YOU CAN ALWAYS GET HER A FEW GRADE 3 ACTIVITY AND STUDY BOOKS
